Rogue River Smokey Blue is cold smoked over great northwest hazelnut shells for 16 hours. The result is a blue with a sharpness that is contrasted by a smoky tang that is light and sweet. Rogue River Creamery was first established by Tom Vella, creator of Vella's Dry Jack, in the mid 1930's with the financial backing of J.L. Kraft. Tom produced his first blue veined cheese in the 1950's after traveling to Roquefort. Tom's son, Ignazio, sold the company in 2002 but stayed on as Rogue's Master Cheesemaker. Since then, several new creations have been added to the dairy's line, and this gem is one of them. Enjoy with crisp apple, Amarena cherries or a Lambic Ale.
